Factions and reputation

Who holds what, standing, checkpoints, trade and sabotage.

Groups of the living hold ground across the county, and each one is a settlement with its own people, stores and needs. They trade, raid each other, lose leaders and change hands whether you're involved or not.

  • Haven, at the Sandy Shores airfield.
  • Blackmere Security, around Fort Zancudo.
  • The Tidewater, on the Paleto coast.
  • The Rust Kings, at the Port.
  • The Choir, on the west flank of Mount Chiliad.

Standing

Every faction and every named person remembers how you've treated them. You won't see a number, but you'll hear it in how they greet you and whether they help. Trading fairly and doing work for them builds trust. Killing their people, stealing from them and breaking deals turn them against you, and word spreads.

Checkpoints

Blackmere's posts warn first. Come closer and you'll hear a last warning, and if you're still standing there a few seconds later, they open fire. People they trust are waved through.

Trade and work

Look at a faction person with ALT and choose Talk. They'll buy what they're short of and sell what they have too much of, with prices following their stocks. Ask what they need and you'll be offered a delivery that pays well and raises their trust.

Sabotage

A faction's fuel depot can be wrecked with a Molotov or a bomb if none of their guards can see you. It hurts them for days, and they'll hate you for it, but their enemies will respect you more.
