Joining and loading
Why your first join takes longer, what the loading screen is doing, and the one FiveM setting worth turning on.
The first time you join, the loading screen downloads the whole world once: the buildings and interiors, the vehicles, the infected, the weapons and every piece of clothing. It takes a while, but afterwards nothing turns up invisible or pops in when you meet it for the first time.
- The bar shows how much is left: which part is streaming, how many pieces and gigabytes are done out of the total.
- FiveM keeps everything it downloads. After the first time, joining takes seconds, and after an update only what changed downloads.
- On a slow connection you can hold Enter for a moment after a few minutes to continue anyway. The rest keeps streaming quietly while you play, and whatever finished is kept for next time.
A setting worth turning on
In FiveM's own Settings, on the Game tab, turn on Extended Texture Budget. It gives the game more room for textures, so busy places like downtown and the big bases stay sharp instead of going blurry.
If a join ever seems stuck, give it a minute before you quit, because a big part of the world can take a while on a slow line. If it really stops moving, tell staff on the report page and say roughly when it happened.
